Boring Conversation Anyway™ Episode 52: 'Are We Collecting or Hoarding Star Wars Toys?'

Another video/audio Boring Conversation Anyway™ as we go deep in to why we collect Star Wars and ask if we really are just hoarders? As usual some of the best expertise in toy collecting and sites join us to share their thoughts:  Yakface.comImperialShipyards.netJedi Temple ArchivesDan Curto Dorksidetoys.com

Thanks as always to these guys for their time and what was a great meaty and insightful discussion. Watch the video below or

1. Round table;
  1. each quick background on when started collecting,
  2. what you collect, and do you have a focus?
  3. where you get them? Are a hoarder or a collector?
  4. This cartoon sums it up. 013/07/Hoarder03.jpg
  5. collecting sources, reference to both of Steve Sansweet books (Paul and Dan input on the items in the book, where were figures from predominantly?)

2. Looking at some well known collectors
  1. Steve Sansweet, the biggest of them all (Old phoptos) http://rebelscum.com/gallery/rancho-opening-pw/

3. Definition of hoarding
  1. Tom Berges minimal but gorgeous vintage collection https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10202637428248568&set=o.222822571081040&type=3&permPage=1

4. Hoarding, often deeply tied to emotional aspects, any of the panel have any emotional aspects to their collections?
  1. Our friend in Star Wars Land James Burns went though this last year with a TV crew (brave man). Not the worst case of hoarding but clearly getting to be a problem amd jighlights the emotional aspect http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p01w2s3f
  2. Can you believe hoarding can lead to murder? https://plus.googleapis.com/+TekSushi/posts/YEngUGj9kWY

5. Collection Intervention (& to a lesser degree the Toy Hunter) provided me some valuable insights.  1-3 Elese Luray, rest are FLYGUY-but hopefully useful!
  1. Condition is key. Items are always worth more and easier to sell if the condition is good.
  2. If an item comes with original packing, keep it, even if you display, collectibles are always worth more with their boxes.
  3. Display your collection. What is the point of collecting if you cannot enjoy it.
  4. You can’t take this shit with you - if there was a fire and you had to save five things what would they be? That’s the core and perhaps focus of your collection.
  5. Sell, donate and get rid of ‘stuff’ that clutters your life. If you're not enjoying it and appreciating it,  you're not enjoying collecting, your likely hoarding and getting depressed. Angry turds are shit-deal with it!
  6. Recycling and getting rid of stuff lets you buy new stuff! After a time, you may find that having is not so pleasing a thing after all as wanting.” -Spock in Star trek!

6. Focus and or themes can help you round out a collection
